2003’s Point of Honour is the first volume in Madeleine E. Robins’ Sarah Tolerance alternate history regency mystery series.

Regency England offers disgraced women like Sarah Tolerance a number of career alternatives. For example, a particularly romantic fallen woman might hurl herself from cliffs into a J. M. W. Turner-quality seascape. Far more likely, she would join England’s legions of prostitutes, become a manager of said prostitutes or perhaps a hat-maker. Sarah became an investigative agent.

But first, about the Regency in which Sarah is living. King George III being quite mad, Queen Regent is in charge.
